Located in the Sierra of Leyre, just 50 kms from Pamplona along the highway, the Monastery of Leyre is one of the most important monuments in Navarra.

It is surrounded by woodlands and pathways and, from its esplanade, visitors can take in the magnificence of its scenery, ranging from the nearby Yesa water reservoir to the far distant peaks of the Pyrenees.

The Monastery Visitors Service offers visitors the opportunity to take a journey through the history of Navarra, a history which is reflected in this monumental complex which holds many of the secrets of the Old Kingdom.

During the tour, lasting around 45 minutes, you will learn about the legend of St Virila, the Abbey Church (declared a National Monument), the Coffer holding the remains of the First Kings of Navarra, the beautiful "Porta Speciosa" doorway, the carving of St. María de Leyre and the spectacular crypt, the oldest example of Romanesque art in the Peninsula.

• From 1st March to 31st October: 10.00h to 19.00h.
• From 1st November to 28th February: 10.00h to 18.00h.

Open every day, except for the afternoon of 24^th and 31 December, 25th December and on the 1st and 6th of January.

In order to provide the best possible service, we would ask groups of 10 or more to book in advance.

The dining room has a seating capacity for 120 and looks onto the Patio de los Canteros (stonemasons' patio). Visitors can enjoy an exquisite menu prepared with fresh local produce, including sturgeon and caviar from the nearby fish farm at Yesa.

Located on the hotel ground floor, the bar offers a terrace sheltered by an enormous lime tree and some spectacular views over the Yesa reservoir. The bar is open from 10h to 20 hrs. from the 1st March to 9^th December. Open at Christmas

GREGORIAN CHANT AT LEYRE

The Monastery of Leyre is a living monument, inhabited and cared for by a Benedictine Community which invites everyone wishing to do so, to take part in its daily liturgies.

ORGAN CONCERTS AND RECITALS

Likewise, the guided tours include an organ recital in which visitors can hear part of one of the more classical works composed for this instrument.
